(May 11, 2012) – R&S Landscaping, the region’s leading environmentally responsible landscaping firm, today announced the winner of its second annual Earth Day poster contest: Madison Collin, a student of Willard Elementary School’s fifth-grade class in Ridgewood, N.J.

As the first-place winner, Collin will receive four complimentary passes to Liberty Science Center, a 300,000 sq-foot museum and learning center located in Liberty State Park on the Jersey City bank of the Hudson near the Statue of Liberty. Additionally, her original artwork will be displayed on R&S Landscaping’s website — — and at Ridgewood Whole Foods Café.

The contest was launched to inspire creativity and encourage Bergen County students to be more aware of the diversity in their gardens. Open to Bergen County students in first through eighth grades, the theme was Beneficial Garden Bugs.
“We were very impressed with so many of the entries that it was hard to pick just one winner, but the enthusiasm Madison expressed in her bold and colorful poster really stood out,” said Robert Schucker, president of R&S Landscaping. “We are pleased to be part of an encouraging event that helped students learn about understand more about the ecosystem in a way that they can explore and experience for themselves close to home.”
